Ig Nobels

I was reading the Wikipedia entry for L. Ron Hubbard this evening when I came across this little gem:

Hubbard was awarded the 1994 Ig Nobel Prize in Literature for "his crackling Good Book, Dianetics, which is highly profitable to mankind — or to a portion thereof".

Which made me laugh out loud. I now resolve that I shall in my scientific career, publish a paper worthy of an Ig Nobel.

I worked for a guy who was a Scientologist. Interesting conversations, for sure.

L. Ron did write some good stuff, just not his sci-fi or religious crap.

I own this book & can say that it is amazing how somebody so whacked out on his religious views can be so clear (no pun intended) on more earthly topics.

I don't think Lafayette actually believed any of that crap himself.

It's actually taken pretty seriously though. Even actual Nobel laureates are present to hand out the prizes.
