well, i was out on the kayak this weekend
(the mighty Delaware)
i always bring my camera and snap shots
and none of them were particularly impressive this weekend, so you all
would probably not heard from me here, except...
while trying to navigate underneath a bridge and avoid a fisherman and his
line, i struck a bridge support and flipped my boat.
this is not particularly remarkable, i have flipped many a kayak and canoe,
but all of my elecronic gadgetry ended up in the drink.
now, i'm not a complete idiot, the electronics are kept in a
tupperware tub. unfortunately, the lid was not on it at the time.
i promtly removed all of the batteries, and upon returning home, i
disassembled everything and allowed it to dry.
i expected my CD player to live and the camera to die. i have two cameras
(obviously), but i was hoping the camera might be salvageable (it cost a
lot more than the CD).
i was suprised to find that the camera lived. so far, the CD does not work,
but i will give it another day to dry.
i wasn't worried about my SD card in the camera, i have already run
one through the wash with no ill effects.

Forget the Tupperware you need a dry bag. Go to REI immediately! Also, what
size kayak is that? I want to get a 12 footer or so myself for week long
trips down the Wisconsin River.
a) The Canon Powershot A95 is kickarse all-round camera, and also includes
a waterproof housing.
b) Get an old toothbrush, a bottle of metholated spirits, and follow the
following instructions.
1) Unscrew EVERYTHING in the CD player (or any water-damaged electronics.
Take out the circuit board (PCB).
2) If possible, submerge the PCB in a bowl of metholated spirits.
3) Scrub that fucker with metho and an old toothbrush.
4) Blow-dry on hot for 5min then let it air-dry for 5min. If you don't
have any nearby ladyfriends and you are not a pansy-arse girlyman... just
let it air-dry for three times as long, and hope for the best.
Works for most electronic stuff, the less complex the more likely
it'll work. I've ressurrected many mobiles phones using this (or
a variant of this) method.

are you sure about that idiot-thing? :D
well, you rescued the cam - so i guess you're not a retard :]
we have a proper restaurant-style coffee maker at work (where i drink
the vast majority of my coffee). the one at home is merely for
emergency weekend coffee
Working on my tiny Ricer cars can be quite a
challenge at times. Stuffing my mitts into places that were designed for
Asian appendages usually leaves burns or scratches & increases my
Drunken-Sailor vocabulary...
