It used to be only for the Bay Area, but now it seems they've extended
it. I've added a blank "streetview" template to the sh0ps
submissions so we can make our own if tress doesn't ax it.
i don't think google should be criticized for invading
privacy,
they should be congratulated for showing how real it is.
google, a private company, pulls it off fairly easily and then shows
you what they did. what's johnny law doing?
in philadelphia, they regularly send up a few camera-equipped cessnas
and photograph the entire city in a grid pattern. these photos are
sent to L&I and used to determine if people have made any changes
to their properties without applying for proper permits. they are also
used by the tax man to reassess these properties and raise property
taxes. most people caught this way probably never realize how they got
caught, and likely blame their neighbors for diming them out.
