speaking of which...
i enrolled recently for the fall term at Drexel U
i wonder how many of my professors will be younger than me
in other news...
philadelphia put's on a nice little fireworks show every 4th
the fireworks are launched from a barge on the schuylkill river, which is a
few miles in from the delaware river
i've paddled my kayak to the location in the past
during daylight hours
...but i've never successfully tried it on the night of the 4th
the plan was to get a nice front-row seat to the fireworks show
taking pictures in a kayak in the dark with a cheap camera is a bitch...
any way, we got about half-way there when a coast guard boat started pacing
us. this went on for about a half-hour. i am certain that they were going
over kayak-ing regulations trying to find some way to get us off the
river.
they finally called us over and told us that we did not have proper
lighting. i did, but my companion boat did not.
there was a lot of power-boat traffic, and they were afraid that we'd
get hit.
i can paddle in six inches of water, and always stay near the shore. a
power boat would hit the bottom long before it got me, but these
weren't the kind of people you argue with
they loaded us and our boats on their boat and gave us a free ride back to
jersey
next year...
