Well they say orchids are difficult to bloom. I didn't really
nurture this one too much. I put it in special orchid soil and misted
it daily during the summer and soaked the soil once a week. And I
think they like cooler weather so I left it outside in the winter and
that's when it started to bloom. The stalk came up in like late
January and it took this long till the flowers opened up. So far the
flowers have been open for almost two weeks and going strong.
No I've never been. I'd be afraid to go, I'd want to
buy them all. I was just looking at all the varieties on-line the
other day, there's like 30,000 species.
How'd you get it to bloom? Some say you have to split the plant so it
has a buddy or something to cross-fertilize, but the one that sits in my
pot does virtually nothing.
I've also heard vocally threatening the plant helps. Some Mythbusters
episode showed that playing rock music plants helped them grow. I bet emo
music makes them die though (or so I hope).
I did some reading and one site mentioned that if you expose the
plant to some nights of varying day/night temperature changes,
like 10-15F (6-9C), it'll really start blooming.
Too bad the plant here died before I learned that though.
Can I get that in a silk version please?
'Cause then don't have to water'm, talk to'm, play
music, give'm sunshine or any of that shit. You can even throw'm
when your angry and they'll still look ok. Trust me, I know.
Wow those are beautiful! When I was a kid, I planted an Avacado seed and it
takes 7 years for them to make fruit, and on the 6th year my mom let my
step dad 'garden' and he destroyed my plant...we haven't
gotten along since.
That's very nice, Trog. Well done - a perfect specimen.
In the SW of Australia where I am we get <a

">spider orchids</a> growing wild... they're my
favourite flower, though I know nothing about gardening or flowers.
