So last week, while riding my bike home from the gym, I got rammed into by
a Ford Bronco. I was in the bike lane and came to a complete stop at an
intersection even though I had the right of way. Everyone stops to let me
go so I went on my merry way. Then one guy coming out of the intersection
sees everyone stopped but doesn't look right to see me, thinks
he's good to go and accelerates right into me, throwing me clear
across the road. Thankfully, his truck came to a stop on my new bike and
not on me. I work as a firefighter so when the guys came down in the
ambulance to get me, you can imagine their surprise when it was one of
their own. So, 1 ER visit and 2 doctors later, I have a broken wrist, a
torn MCL and multiple fractures in my left tibial plateau, one of which is
deviated 4cm and my bones aren't aligned. I find out Tuesday if I need
surgery or not. Fucking wonderful! So I'm out of action for 4 to 6
weeks at least, I'm so fucking bored. My insurance finally got a hold
of his insurance today and we found out that the guy didn't even
report it or tell his insurance. Nice. If I can't be a firefighter
anymore, there's gonna be hell to pay.
My leg and then some not so related.

condolences man, shall we send you a b0ggette so you don't hurt
yourself trying to fap to porn with only one hand?
...btw knucklehead, leave the fucking brace on, BECAUSE, you're going
to need to have a fixator to completely immobilize that knee-joint while
that tibial plateau heals up. you keep moving the damn thing around now
will be the difference between a career and a dis-ability. get used to
this, the procedure will probably take more than a year, AND THEN, all of
the physical therapy it will take to restore movement in the knee.
Thankfully, it was my left hand but I'll still take the b0ggette!
And I only take the brace off to take pictures. I'm keeping a
daily log with pics so I can show the lawyers!

The pic doesn't look too bad actually but the frame is bent
slightly, the front wheel is toast, the rear tire won't move
and the gears are fragged. I don't think it can be fixed so
I better get a new bike out of all this.
If my knee hadnt have been destroyed, I would have been in that
guy's face. The first thing I saw was my nice new bike laying
right next to me all busted up.
My bike was busted up a little too, and the guy who hit me
offered to give me some money (probably so I wouldn't sue)
but I was all confused and I got away from there as soon as as I
could 'cos I was carrying.
The real problem is how the laws are structured. They give bikers too
many rights by treating them, and their bike, as vehicles.
They're not vehicles, or at least not vehicles in the sense of
motor vehicles. Why are bikers not required to have licenses like is
required for motor bikes? Why are these bicycles not fined for
backing up traffic because they're going too slow? Why
aren't bikers arrested for zipping dangerously between cars at a
red light? I'd like at least some consistency in this definition
of a "vehicle of the road."
What I really hate is when bikers think that everyone should be
watching out for THEM instead of being more aware of themselves and
others. It's like those idiotic people who leave their doors
wide open towards the street when they get out. Do they even think
that maybe someone could hit it? With bikers, sure, they might have
the right-of-way, but in any contest between a real car and a biker,
the biker is going to lose. The first rule of the road is to be aware
of others who aren't aware of you.
in my neck of the woods, bikers must adhere to all of the local
traffic regulations. you can even get a DUI for pedaling under
the influence. granted, i've never seen much evidence that
there is any enforcement.
I couldn't agree more. I always use the bike lanes or the
sidewalk if there's nobody in it. I always yeild to cars
because I know they're not paying attention. I NEVER ride in
the road and I hate bikers that do that. Not only is it dangerous
but cars have to stay behind them going insanely slow. I never
assume because there's a bike lane or crosswalk, that cars
will stop. The guy who hit me didn't look right so if there
was someone on the sidewalk, he'd have run them over as
well. The cops in my town do crosswalk stings all the time,
it's amazing that people still don't look.
Dude, I'm so sorry to hear about you getting hit. I've been
nicked before, but never run into. That sucks worse than a double date
with Alpha Male!!
I ride my bike on the road like a car.
Sort of.
If I'm turning left at an intersection, I take
the lane. TAKE THE LANE!!!
That means I line myself up so that I'm almost in the center.
The grease slick in the middle is to be avoided for obvious reasons.
When turning right, TAKE THE LANE!!!
Just like the
website I offered here says, I ride like I'm invisible to cars. I
make myself visible by what I wear & how I ride.
There are
those bike riders who give the rest of us a bad name for their poor road
behavior. You can tell right away who knows their shit & who's
just a poser-suck-ass-soon-to-be-road-kill-motherfucker!!
What happened to the good ol' days when cars actually had
REAL bumpers, not just plastic piece of shit that dent if a
tricycle pedalled by a toddler should happen to bump into it?
