as a kid i could never afford the comics i wanted to read, and none of my
friends bothered to buy any worth reading.
some time ago i stumbled across a IRC channel where A Few Good Men scan
comics and share them with the internets, this is known
as #comic-scans of the irc.dejatoons.net network, if you think the x-men
are a bunch of homosexuals and that capes are for pussies, skip to the
next
section of my journal.
to connect to the channel you need to get a IRC client, windows users can
go to http://mirc.com it's probably the most popular client, and
easiest to set
up, linux users can screw themselfes, they was around when IRC was
invented, dont expect me to make a dumbass of myself telling you what to do
:)
when installed go to tools > options and a new window pops up
now look at the list of options and select DCC
(it is not recommended joining other networks/channels with this setup, if
you do, you're asking for it, this
little sorry excuse of a IRC newbie guide is just to get the retards
going)
On send request:
select Auto-Get file
-> if file exists: overwrite
On chat request:
select Auto-Accept
now click Ignore under the DCC tree
Method: Disabled
and be sure to uncheck "Turn ignore back on in"
now go to the top of the options and fill in your name and shit, dont
choose fulper, it's taken.
press Ok
now type /server -c irc.dejatoons.net in the status window it will connect
you to the server(duh)
and then type /join #comic-scans
( if you are really elite just type /j comic-scans )
you are now in the channel, let the leeching begin
lets say you want to find a comic f.ex Ultimate X-Men 69
type this in the channel: @find Ultimate X-Men 69
then a shitload buttons pop up in you channel bar (you can move it to the
right side so it's easier to browse search results)
i choose this guy sym and this is what his fileserver tells me:

<Sym> Found [1] file on Trigger:[/ctcp Sym Comics] - Sends:[1/1] -

this tells you where your file is
but what you want is the trigger: /ctcp Sym Comics
now type /ctcp Sym Comics
you will now connect to Sym's fileserver
now you can move around in his server and look for your comics with the
following commands:
dir : shows all files in your current directory
cd : tells you what directory you are in
cd lol : opens the directory "lol"
cd.. : takes you back to the last directory you where in
get file : begins downloading a file
it's simple, figure it out....
now download and install CDisplay @

when you load a comic press ctrl+w so it autofits the image, rightclick for
menu, happy good times and have fun.
warning: comics are good for a week or so, then it gets gay...

Why don't you contribute your "Comic leeching on the I R C"
tutorial to the almighty b0g ezine. That might increase the chance of
getting b0g-12.txt out!
from hacking the gibson to leeching comics on irc? i dont think it
will work, i have been cooking up something for the next issue, but
it's kinda lame :)
