So anyway, been working in a yoghurt factory for the past week. Its just a
2 3 week summer job, mostly for the experience, but the money is quite good
too. I got 84CYP which is exactly 145.562 euros. I work from 8 in the
morning to 4 in the afternoon with a half hour lunchbreak at 1 and a short
earlier break. I worked 1 hour overtime aswell.
Its hard work, sometimes gets repetative but its not that big, 15 ppl max
work there. Theres a bigger one downtown. Also most ppl here are cypriots,
so I can relate more. Last year at a distributer plant it was a lot bigger
and most were foreign, many old and unfirendly hags, sucked :(
So thats that. Basicly I just pack the yoghurts in boxes. But my supervisor
(who owns, he looks real badass, mastros in greek) rotates me to do
different things.
Btw watch this if you havent. It fucks you up. Soundtrack is awesome.
Tonight sucked. No one is in Nicosia. Everyone is on the beach. Like Ayia
Napa or Protaras. Sigh
irrelevant (or is it?)
Goodnight fellow b0ggers.

Let me get the numbers right...
You work 8 hrs a day for 2-3 weeks and all you get is 145 euros? I
don't mean to rain on your parade but I'd say they've ripped
you off.
No im not working there for a real job. Its just a summer job. I dont pay
rent nor food nor gas (I get a drivers licence at 18 here), and that money
is quite a lot for me at this age.
If you worked just one day a week over two weeks (i.e. 2 days), you
earned €145 / (2day * 8hr/day) = €9 / hour. So €9/hour is therefore
the very maximum you could've earned while working.
However, I assume you worked more than that. Say you worked three
days a week over two weeks. That was €3/hour you were being paid.
Extend that to a 40 hour work week (the kind we have here, maybe not
in France), and that's €1.81/hour you were being paid.
Yes, that money is a lot at your age, and maybe the value of the Euro
is higher where you live, but that's less than the wage
you'd earn as the lowliest employee at McDonalds. It might be
different where you live, but I'd still look around for a better
job, maybe at a diner or somewhere else, one that complies with
government standards on minimum wage (if Cyprus has that).
requiem for a dream is the most badass movie ever, and i'm giong to
convince the orchestra i play in the get the copyright for the song so we
can perform it... the summer's overture or wahtever it's called
