Music Episode 2: Surgical Sounds from the Museum of Skin
Ah yes, back again for another music rampage. Perhaps I have become too
attached to my quest for musical wierdness. Perhaps not. Either way, here
is a segement of the more b0g worthy experemental music I have come to
love.
Firtly, Fantomas. A band formed by Mike Patton of the ever infamous Mr.
Bungle, Fantomas attempted to go completely insane, as far as I can tell.
One of their CDs that i have is Surgical Sounds from the Museum of Skin. It
consists of one 74 minuite long track, that can best be described as an
ambient journey through the hallucinatory image of a hospital and surgery
from hell. Truly disturbing, and very strange. Did I mention that that
crazy fucker from Melvins is in Fantomas? Because he is.
Next, Earth. One of the pioneers of the Drone Doom genre, Earth is a band
made of a guitarist, a basist, and some super-fucked amps. Combine that
with frequencys sub 60 hrz for the entire album, and riffs that go on for
minuites before completion, and you have a truly strange experence. Also,
the last song (and third) on Earth 2 is one chord, sustained for 25
minuites. Wooooo, weirdness.
My last selection for today is Nobukazu Takemura. This crazy japanese guy
makes techno music that really is just a series of zaps and clashes and for
the most part, it is hard to tell if there is even a beat, much less any
semblance of what most people would call music. Great for parties.
