The largest conventional bomb by weight, the T12 demolition
bomb, weighs in at a little less than a "mere"
20 metric tons, most of that dedicated to the ability to
penetrate the earth. However, by explosive power, the
Massive Ordinance Air Blast (MOAB) GBU-43 AKA "Mother Of All Bombs" is the largest, at
9.5-metric-tons of explosive power.
Compare the MOAB to a nuclear weapon: ten tons of nuclear
explosive power fits into a 51-pound (23kg) nuclear device a little larger than a soccer ball
(football for you Europeans). Such devices could be scaled
up to 1kT if necessary.
So have a little respect when someone detonates a
500-metric-ton nuclear weapon. Nuclear devices are
orders of magnitude more powerful than conventional
explosives, all in a highly deliverable package (unlike a
"small ship").
And yet for all of them, North Korea achieves the
same strategic effect with tens of thousands of
artillery batteries aimed at South Korea. The
nuke is nothing more than a political chesspiece.

One of the arguments used against the idea that the
Earth was round was that the spinning would cause us to
