but when it comes to data destroying, books are a lot safer: just start a big fire and there is NO way to restore anything. But even a real n00b can restore your personal data from a simply formatted HDD. lvl 164 r0xx0rs in Pentagon can restore data from HDD's that have been on fire and shattered into pieces. reply to this comment

That's what Derik's Boot and Nuke is for. For faster destruction I'd suggest making some thermite and have the things melted. The best thing to do, however, is to have an encrypted virtual drive with an encryption key that is 256bits long. That way when the power is out, there is no more key in memory and it is essentially random data. reply to this comment
