The following pics are of a circuit I built. The person who guesses
correctly as to what the circuit is/does [first] will win their own custom
macro pic made by yours truely.
I'll also post schematitcs for the circuit...what do you expect when

its an alarm, one of the easiest circuits to make, when the connection is
broken it flashes and the bell goes off providing both visual and
audiological stimulation to the guard of the protected area.
i'm guessing that the covered chip is a 555 timer, sending pulses out
to the relay. when the output is 1, the relay is triggered to the NO
position and the red LED is lit. when the output is 0, the relay returns to
the NC position and lights the green LED. the potentiometer controls the
frequency of the output pulses.
Er, probably an op-amp circuit which lets you adjust the gain until the
relay switches the LED(s) on. Maybe the red LED stays on until the green
LED switches on.
